According to Microsoft, “continued testing and feedback from users” shows Memory Integrity and Virtual Machine Platform (VMP) can both create slower performance during gameplay. “Gamers who want to prioritize performance have the option to turn off these features while gaming and turn them back on when finished playing,” points out Microsoft in the support document. “However, if turned off, the device may be vulnerable to threats.” Memory Integrity is a feature that ensures drivers are secure before they are installed onto Windows 11....

Many users have wanted Microsoft to bring a Graphic User Interface (GUI) page to Windows Terminal. The reason is the JSON-based Terminal allows customization but while there is flexibility editing JSON is not easy. Microsoft listened to the requests it seems. Microsoft program manager Kayla Cinnamon took to Twitter recently to tease a Setting GUI for Windows Terminal. In fact, the employee all but confirmed the feature, saying it will arrive in the next preview update for the app....

Windows Developer Dominic Maas says he managed to integrate the feature into the Chrome browser. This was possible because Microsoft left Timeline open for developers to use. Maas created an extension for the browser that works similarly to how Microsoft integrates the feature into Edge. The extension is not available yet, but Maas says he will release it soon. He currently has a project open on GitHub for users to follow the progress....

This is the second annual Xbox & Bethesda Showcase following 2021’s first event. Microsoft holds these virtual showcases to replace its E3 presence. The E3 Expo – traditionally the largest gaming conference in the world – has been cancelled for three years following the global pandemic. Rather than go all-digital, Entertainment Software Association (the organizers) prefer to cancel. It is worth noting that plenty of events have returned to in-person, but E3 continues to hold out....

Perhaps the biggest new piece of information from the podcast was an ability for the Xbox Series X to resume games where they left off when it is rebooted. Yes, this is similar to the feature on the Xbox One that allows users to resume games. However, the Series X will support the tool across multiple games when the console is rebooted. However, AMD has since been forced to correct reports, saying that the model used in the render was not provided by Microsoft. Instead, the marketing team purchased a model from modeling marketplace TurboSquid.com, meaning it’s a fan interpretation. In an effort to prepare and have quantum-ready protection, Cloudflare has published the results of a recent positive experiment. The company is rolling out an experiment that is calls “post-quantum” that allows website admins to add support for two agreements: X25519Kyber512Draft00 and X25519Kyber768Draft00. These will function alongside current encryption methods to ensure compatibility and functionality on quantum computers. This is a preparation experiment. Because it is preparing for a quantum future, the agreements do not really do anything at the moment....

However, there are concerns there could be a bug in the platform allowing user information to appear online. Still, Clubhouse denies this is the case. Massive amounts of data collected from users has been posted on hacking forums. Specifically, a SQL file with personal information related to 1.3 million Clubhouse users. It’s available for free and included user IDs, real names, photos, and social media handles. CyberNews reports threat actors could leverage the data to engage in phishing campaigns....

In fact, Microsoft’s promise to transform Cortana into a productivity tool is all but complete. In its announcement, the company has confirmed the removal of many consumer-fronted features. Cortana was engrained into the Windows 10 experience and built into the search tool. Microsoft separated Search and Cortana last year and now the assistant’s role on Windows has been diminished further. Indeed, Microsoft says from Windows 10 20H1, she will only be available to people with a Microsoft account....

Let’s start with the XPS series, which is Dell’s most famed line of computing devices. The company announced a new 13-inch version with the Comet Lake CPU. Other premium features include Dolby Vision or 4K Ultra HD display choices. Also included is an Intel Wi-Fi 6 chip. Dell confirmed the new XPS 13 will be launched on August 27 for a Core i7 U-series variant and will cost $899. There will also be a hexacore variant that will ship in October....

The EC’s concerns with the deal seem to be the same issues other regulators and rivals such as Sony have raised. Sony has been a vocal leader in the backlash against the deal. One of Sony’s main concerns is that Microsoft buying Activision Blizzard will create a gaming monopoly. The PlayStation company is not alone, it is a worry shared by many. Still Microsoft definitely wants consumers and organizations to choose Windows 10 over Linux. So, a decision made by the German state of Lower Saxony will be chalked up as a win for the company. The state says it will migrate its government PCs away from Linux and to Windows 10. This decision follows the same path taken by Munich, the Bavarian city abandoned Linux in 2017. Heise reports Lower Saxony currently uses OpenSuse in its 13,000 tax authority workstations....
