We first reported on this merger earlier in the month, and Microsoft has been prepping Teams for the integration. This is further evolution of Microsoft’s business chat output. After purchasing Skype and rolling out Skype for Business, the company replaced its previous Lync service. Now, Microsoft Teams is obviously becoming the core service. Since launching fully earlier in the year, Microsoft Teams has been adopted by 125,000 organizations. Microsoft can expect Teams to continue to grow....

Now the company has given more detail about the issue and how it plans to avoid it in the future. It appears the outage was a compounding of three major issues that took the service down without notifying Microsoft. The issues began with latency between the MFA frontend’s communication with its cache servers. This occurred only at periods of high usage but often triggered the second root cause: “The second root cause is a race condition in processing responses from the MFA backend server that led to recycles of the MFA frontend server processes which can trigger additional latency and the third root cause (below) on the MFA backend,” explained Microsoft....

Of course, loads of Windows problems emerge that way. Microsoft says it has now used the Known Issue Rollback to solve the glitch. “After installing KB5012643, Windows devices using certain GPUs might have apps close unexpectedly or intermittent issues with some apps which use Direct3D 9. You might also receive an error in Event Log in Windows Logs/Applications with faulting module d3d9on12.dll and exception code 0xc0000094,” Microsoft explains. With Known Issue Rollback (KIR), the bug has been squashed, although Microsoft says it may take 24 hours to see the change: “Please note that it might take up to 24 hours for the resolution to propagate automatically to consumer devices and non-managed business devices....

Gates has previously been vocal about Microsoft’s labored approach to mobile platforms costing the company. Speaking in his latest interview, the billionaire emphasized that feeling by claiming that he personally made mistakes during that era: “Microsoft didn’t end up doing the phone operating system well enough. I made mistakes there that I regret.” While that all Bill Gates was willing to say on Microsoft’s failings in mobile, it’s clear that failure rankles him....

With Action Center, the annoyance surrounded its rendering of the acrylic effect. Users on version 1903 will note that clicking the button first displays a panel with regular transparency, before the more matte acrylic loads in. It’s far from a big issue, but it’s one of those things you can’t unsee. A similar problem existed with the Start Menu, but that was thankfully resolved a while ago. Unfortunately, while this fix is in 20H1 Insider fast builds, it’s yet to make its way into the Windows 10 November 2019 update or Windows 1903 builds....

In the old days, a new Office release was major news. After-all, it was the productivity suite most enterprise and consumer customers would be using. Over the years, that excitement has diluted slightly. More competitors, such as Google Workspace, and Microsoft’s own Office 365 have taken over the traditional experience. Office 365 tests and hosts new features, so there’s no reason for many users to wait years for a new full Office experience....

This has proved incredibly frustrating for users, who opt into the channel specifically to avoid bugs. Instead of rolling out on release, the updates are supposed to be delayed for a number of months. For organizations, this can be essential, removing the need for extensive tech support when employees have issues. Viva Learning is part of the overall Viva employee experience, which also includes Viva Connections and Viva Insights. Viva Connections has been available to all SharePoint customers since March. Like other additional features, Centralized Deployment gives Office users more tools to personalize their experience. With the new feature, users can use PowerShell scripts or the Office 365 admin center to deploy Office web add-ins. These additions can be for groups, organizations, and individuals. Sharing the add-ins through Centralized Deployment directly from Office apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint....

The service lets users pay monthly to access a catalog of EA Games, including Battlefield 1, Titanfall 2, Star Wars: Battlefront and more. It seems users have been charged for overlapping subscriptions in cases where they already had one. This appears to have affected a number of undisclosed services, with users primarily reporting problems with EA Access. Players have overpaid up to $27, and Microsoft has set up a website to streamline the refund process....
