Since it launched, Microsoft Team has been more useful on web and desktop. The full experience is not yet on mobile, but the company is working towards adding more features. With the latest update, iOS users have scored an update that came to Android a week ago. Specifically, version 1.0.13 of the iOS application deals with bringing support for tabs in channels, and several other abilities. Mobile users can now see and interact with tabs, including the Planner and OneNote apps....

Available for all Teams users on Google’s platform, Together mode is bundled with a wider update for the app. With Together mode, Microsoft wants team members and meeting participants to appear as if they are in the same location. It is a small touch, but a nice one for organizations that value a uniform output. By using AI segmentation, Microsoft Teams can place meeting participants within a shared background. The idea behind this is to make it look more like participants are in the same room together....

Looking at the Android update first, Microsoft To-Do now has improvements for both light and dark modes. Both modes should now look better for users. The probe surrounds indirect software sales to the Hungarian government, with the tech giant accused of selling Office software to the middlemen firms at a discounted rate. Those firms then sold the software to government agencies at full price, with officials allegedly pocketing the extra cash or using it to bribe government staff. As part of the settlement, Microsoft did not have to confirm or deny wrongdoing. The SEC said that the company was cooperative in the investigation, it didn’t have sufficient procedures in place to ensure the discounts it approved were being passed on to customers....

Microsoft has confirmed it has commissioned five new custom fonts for Microsoft Word. While you may be thinking fonts are added all the time but Calibri remains the default, Microsoft has some news for you. The company says one of the five news fonts will replace Calibri as the default, at least “eventually”: “[Calibri] has served us all well, but we believe it’s time to evolve,” Microsoft said in a blog post....

A tweet by Aubrey Norris, a developer for Microsoft-owned Mojang, suggests that a Minecraft Beta will arrive soon with the upgraded engine for 4K gaming. Yes, the game will likely launch before the Xbox One X does. That’s not a surprise. While Minecraft will only run native 4K on Microsoft’s new console, the updated game will function across all Xbox One devices. Firefox Send is rolling out to everyone today on desktop, which Mozilla also announced a Send beta for Android devices. There has been a problem with Surface Pen accuracy on the device, with numerous users noting the problem. This issue has been persisting for several months so its good to see Microsoft has solved it. Users say their Surface Pen has been inaccurate when a hand is touching the Surface Pro display. That is against the pen’s ability to work when other elements of pressure are on the screen. Microsoft says it has been investigating the problem and the firmware should clear it up....

For those unfamiliar, differential sync lets users upload only the changes for large files. If you have a 1000-page word document but only re-write one page, it’s only that page that will be synced to the cloud. Previously, the feature only supported “modern Office file formats”. This cut out some of its most desirable use-cases, such as in .zip, AutoCAD, and TIFF files. For users on low-bandwidth connections or with data caps, it could prove a godsend....

The social media giant announced plans earlier this year that to tie together the backend infrastructure of its WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram Direct. This would let Facebook users message others on WhatsApp, for example, creating a secure, cross-service messaging platform. There have been concerns with Facebook over anti-competitive behavior and accusations of a monopoly. This had led to several investigations, including one from the FTC which involves anti-trust concerns. The FTC’s consideration of an injunction is reportedly due to worry that integrating the services could make Facebook harder to break up....

Even so, Windows 11 has enjoyed explosive growth over the first six months of availability, suggesting it will surpass Windows 10 eventually. However, Microsoft’s hopes of that happening quickly may be waning as a report shows adoption is slowing. Market research firm AdDuplex says Windows 11 user numbers appear to have hit a plateau. During March 2022, the platform took only 0.1% market from older versions. Currently, the OS takes 19....

As we reported earlier this week, the two companies are becoming closer in the mobile world. Microsoft took to the stage at Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10 launch and promised a “seamless productivity experiences across devices, applications, and services.” Microsoft apps and services will now be more deeply integrated into the Samsung mobile experience. Samsung has been working with Microsoft for several years, putting the company’s Office applications on devices. However, the expanded partnership will now see those apps more integrated into the functionality of Samsung hardware....

ZDNet reports court documents show Bishap Mittal, 24, from North Carolina defrauded over $3 million through a company called Capstone Technologies LLC. Working with anonymous partners, the organization managed various nefarious websites. Capstone Technologies LLC purchased Google and Bing ads to promote their sites on search engines. Additionally, the company would buy ad popups from adware developers around the world. This meant users were directed by the Bing and Google ads to the websites where a popup would appear claiming the users’ computer was frozen and infected....

SharePoint Spaces lets users create Mixed Reality experiences that can be shared with others to view data in 3D. The idea is to use it to demonstrate new products, show 3D video, or train staff. It’s clear that Microsoft is being very forward thinking with this, given the fact that Mixed Reality devices still aren’t popular in the workplace. The video shows employees, pulling on a bulky headset to stare at data visualizations, which is hard to imagine in the current environment....

He noted that so long as Teams’ userbase comes via bigger distribution, he doesn’t see it as a threat. The software is bundled with Microsoft 365, which is dominant in the enterprise space, so it’s natural for a lot of companies to be trying it. He went on to compare the efforts to Microsoft attempting to compete with Google via Bing. “Tens of billions of dollars into that [search engine] and I don’t know what their market share is now — 9% or something like that,” he noted....

The hugely popular messaging service is a prime example of it is not what’s on the surface that counts. The app is often described and bloated and messy by users and simply does not look great. It has been like that for year. Now, Snapchat has detailed an overhaul that aims to change that. At the start of this month, the company announced it would bring updates to its iOS and Android apps....

In the United States, the deal was possible through the Clarifying Lawful Overseas Use of Data (CLOUD) Act. According to a press release from the Department of Justice, the data pact with the UK is the first of its kind. Under the terms of the agreement, authorities in the US and UK will be able to share data.
