Identity Theft Monitoring in Microsoft 365 provides important tools to prevent identity theft. However, Microsoft is not handling these features. Instead, the company has partnered with Experian and is outsourcing to the consumer credit reporting firm. Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers get free benefits from Experian, including insurance of up to $1 million for funds stolen through identity theft. Furthermore, there is $100,000 in insurance for identity theft. Both these policies a provided by the American Bankers Insurance Company of Florida....

Flipkart will now oversee eBay India, which is not a big e-commerce platform in the country. However, the eBay division will continue to be independent. Over numerous funding rounds, Flipkart has raised a total of $4.65 billion. Today’s announcement marks the company’s first funding round in nearly two years. The last came in July 2015, when $700 million was raised. The $1.4 billion brought in this time results in this investment being the biggest round in Indian start-up history....

Creating a confidential computing environment relies on enabling trusted execution environments (TEEs) to drive data protection at a CPU-level. Processors for Intel and AMD already enable users to create TEEs to encrypt data when resting, when in use, or even in transit. Microsoft also already uses the same concepts in Azure. One of the problems with TEEs in their current form is that they are built in CPUs. Microsoft wants to extend their capabilities to GPUs and to make that happen is collaborating with NVIDIA....

On Android and iOS, Microsoft Authenticator already serves as a security hub to your Microsoft activity. That usefulness is extended by notification support. Microsoft says personal account information changes will now be shown in alerts to users. “The goal of these notifications is to increase awareness and help you react quickly if there is unexpected activity,” explains Alex Simons of Microsoft’s Azure identity division. Events on a Microsoft Account, such as personal information changes, password updates, sign-in locations, and new device access will result in a notification in Authenticator....

Azure Cognitive Services is a platform that allows developers to tap into APIs and add them to apps leverage speech, search, and other AI tools. Importantly, developers can leverage the service without needing to learn master machine learning abilities. Looking at the new API, Microsoft announced a new Text Analytics for Health API. Now in preview, this will allow developers to take insights and relationships from medical data that is unstructured....

If you are unfamiliar with Neural TTS, it was first launched three years ago. Even then Microsoft was claiming it had “close to human-parity” when translating text to speech. In other words, the platform provides spoken audio playback of text that is as natural sounding as possible. Microsoft has been improving Neural Text-to-Speech since then for its Azure cloud platform. While you may not be using the tool directly, it is baked into plenty of Microsoft products you probably do, such as Word’s Read Aloud feature, Immersive Reader in Edge, and more....

The support document says Windows 10 users with external USB storage or SD cards in use may not be able to download Windows 10 May 2019 Update. Microsoft says an “inappropriate drive reassignment” is causing the problem. “Inappropriate drive reassignment can occur on eligible computers that have an external USB device or SD memory card attached during the installation of the May 2019 update,” Microsoft said. “For this reason, these computers are currently blocked from receiving the May 2019 Update....

The new regulations were adopted by the European Parliament in 2016 and will pass their enforcement deadline on May 25, 2018. In other words, companies have just over a month to get their compliance in order. European authorities say GDPR was created to ensure companies deal with consumer data better. Like many aspects of European regulation, the reform is focused on tightening customer privacy. NewsGuard will be available as an integration in Microsoft Edge. Specifically, Microsoft says the feature is coming to the beta version of the browser on Android and iOS. Marc Wautier, Program Manager of Microsoft Edge revealed on Twitter the update should be made public soon. That said, Android seems to be receiving the update slower than iOS users, so may have to wait longer for a public release. Surprisingly, Microsoft has said nothing about NewsGuard coming to Microsoft Edge on Windows 10....

This is a feature users’ have been asking for on iOS for some time. Microsoft Edge arrived on iOS back in October 2017 and it has been improving since then. While e-book reading is now supported, it is limited to content that was purchased on the Microsoft Store. That’s arguably a bit pointless considering many iOS users will be engrained in Apple’s content ecosystem. Either way, if you have e-books through the Microsoft Store, you can now read them through Edge on your iPhone or iPad....

In its Windows Blog post, the company says it has already done plenty to shore up Microsoft Edge Sandbox against RCE. For example, the team uses technology like Code Integrity Guard (CIG) and Arbitrary Code Guard (ACG) to stifle attackers using RCE techniques. Microsoft protecting users from vulnerabilities is hugely important on Edge. However, hackers can still get RCE, despite recent improvements. RCE breaches are where an attacker moves away from web code and runs their own code in the browser....

That changed this month as Microsoft introduced the ability to Excel on Apple’s iOS. Excel users can use the feature to capture a photo of a data table, whether it is printed or hand-drawn. Using AI technology, Excel works with the device camera to turn the image into a spreadsheet. Once loaded into Microsoft Excel, the spreadsheet can be edited, shared, and analyzed as normal. One of the obvious positives of Insert Data from Picture is users don’t need to manually enter data into a spreadsheet file....

According to the company, bursting lets eligible disks achieve up to 30x the provisioned performance target to better handle spiky workloads. This should help in workloads that have unpredictable disk usage and improve overall performance. Microsoft warned in its documentation and supporting blog post that this functionality will only be available on its premium SSDs. It will also work on a “best effort” credit-based system. Essentially, you get credits when the traffic is below your provisioned target, which are consumed when it exceeds that through burst....
