Also, the browser has added support for Windows Mixed Reality for preview users. This feature has been available in Windows 10 since the release of version 1803, the April 2018 Update. It is supported in Microsoft Edge and works in other applications, including rival browser Firefox....

Extensions are created by third party developers. If a malicious web extension arrives on Edge or Chrome, it is not from Microsoft or Google. However, it could be argued the company need to do more to stop fraudulent extensions reaching users in the first place. The ship has sailed on stopping all web extensions, they are simply too valuable to users. Instead, Google is beefing up its privacy rules for Chrome extensions....

Unfortunately, a recent support article states ‘Google Map Maker has closed’. However, some functionality may be saved in the form of new Google Maps features. “To make it easier for all Google Maps users to contribute changes to the map, we’ve started to graduate functionality from Map Maker to Google Maps on both desktop and mobile,” says the article. Not Quite There Yet Maps users can already add a place, edit information, moderate edits and change road segments....

Because of the approval, Project Soli radars are cleared to operate on aircraft. FCC says the project “will serve the public interest by providing for innovative device control features using touchless hand gesture technology.” Project Soli is a radar system that captures motion in a three-dimensional environment by using a radar signal to allow touchless controls. Google is creating the project with the goal of improving mobility and speech for those with impairments....

For start, Maps optimizes the route for bikers, rather than having them follow car routes. It suggests narrower streets and puts less emphasis on avoiding congestion. As a result, users should see reduced travel times, as well as more accurate time estimates. In the U.S., where roads are generally wide, the feature may not be especially useful. In India, however, motorcycles sell seven times more than cars. Some alleyways are bike only, while many motorways are restricted to four-wheelers....

Google Project Zero was created to find zero-day flaws in Google software and services from other companies. It has been running since 2015, and Google says it is supposed to push companies into responsibility over security. New features for Windows 10 19H1 have been found that address the famed Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities that were prevalent last year. Meltdown and Spectre were kernel level flaws in Intel and other chips. Crossing generations and platforms, the vulnerabilities affected most devices and took months to fix. Platform developers have had to create systems that can now thwart a similar vulnerability. Luckily, Windows 10 19H1 can do this, but not because of Microsoft....
