The New York City-based company announced it has employed Joseph Sirosh on its Twitter account this week. Compass says he will not become head of its engineering team and Chief Technology Officer. Microsoft is now seeking a new Chief Technology Officer of AI. The company has yet to name a successor to Sirosh or confirm if the new appointment will be made internally. Sirosh’s decision to leave Microsoft ends his five-and-a-half years with the company....

In a report, TechCrunch describes how Microsoft M12 led a recent $20 million round of funding into Space and Time. The investment division was joined by other investors including Foresight Ventures, HashKy, Framework Ventures, and SevenX Ventures. In an announcement for the funding, Space and Time CEO and co-founder Nate Holiday says the investment will help spur technology that will create “a world where smart contracts will operate the business logic of the world through advance automation....

We have covered some of those announcements already, but let’s start with Word. Microsoft has updated the Word Editor pane to be more helpful. The digital writing assistant now offer more information on spelling, grammar, and writing recommendations. This new ability replaces the Spelling & Grammar pane and is compatible with best practices for the visually impaired. Microsoft says the new Editor is only available to Office 365 Insider Program members at the moment....

The app epitomizes Microsoft’s Mobile First, Cloud First strategy. Indeed, Kaizala is mobile only and is designed as an enterprise focused solution and provides a secure platform for business chat. Kaizala provides a platform for organizations to set up large group communication and task management. Collaboration, communication, and organizing can all be done through a mobile, without a need for a desktop hub. Of course, Microsoft already has services with these kinds of features, like Skype and Teams....

AMD will work with Microsoft to create a new generation of devices that enhance the cloud gaming experience. The concept of gaming on the cloud could transform the industry as it would give users easier access. If you are unfamiliar with cloud gaming, it allows gamers to share resources from a central hub. A company would provide graphics card and processing power in the cloud. The upside to the concept would be gamers won’t need powerful PCs to play top tier games....

Before getting into whether that’s a good or bad thing (it’s definitely bad), let’s look at the details. A patent filed in February 2018 titled “COMPUTING DEVICES, REMOVABLE SUPPORT DEVICES, AND METHODS OF USE” shows Microsoft’s intentions. The Microsoft patent explains how a connector can be attached to the device through mechanical and magnetic connections. This attachment can be removed or used as a stand. The company has filed a patent for a solution that would make the notch smaller. If you check out the image of an iPhone X above, you will see the notch is necessary. It houses the front facing camera, but also Apple’s Face ID authentication. Face ID uses 3D data from a dot pattern of the user’s face to recognize individuals to unlock the device. It is very similar to Microsoft’s Kinect and also works very well....

A new Windows 10 application for LinkedIn has now been followed by a new Resume Assistant. The feature integrates directly into Office 365. Indeed, you will need to be a subscriber to Microsoft’s cloud-based productivity suite of apps. Resume Assistant does what it says on the tin. It helps LinkedIn users create a better description in a resume. The feature sits in Microsoft Word and provides a direct integration to the business social network....

According to Smith, the attack on the SolarWinds Orion IT app is a wide-ranging problem and is “ongoing”. Microsoft’s chief lawyer also adds it is “an attack that is remarkable for its scope, sophistication and impact.” All fingers are pointing to a Russia-backed threat group that placed malware on the SolarWinds Orion application. This app is used by SolarWinds users for network monitoring purposes. The company later confirmed the app versions 2019....

It is worth noting that Edge app will become legacy as it will be replaced by Chromium Edge. While the browser never gained much traction, it did have a dedicated userbase. Microsoft understands some users may still want the legacy Edge experience. With that in mind, the company had published a guide on how to use both legacy Edge and Chromium Edge.
