In an interview with Mashable, Design Lead Jill Nussbaum and Product Lead Julian Gutman talked about how the app ‘ranks’ posts and why. The reason, according to Nussbaum, is that users were missing posts. “One of the main reasons was people were missing the posts that mattered to them,” said Nussbaum to the publication. “So before we introduced ranking in 2016, people were missing 70 percent of their content. Over half of that content was friends and family....

Of course, that’s to be expected. With increasing competition from AMD’s Ryzen series, Intel needs to ensure it does more than incrementally update. Through each generation, the company need to deliver some serious performance enhancements. Reports suggest the 9th generation Core i7 CPU will get 8-cores and 16-threads. The processor will be called the Core i7-9700K and will boost the number of cores from 6 in the 8th-gen. Intel’s latest available chips deliver 40% more performance compared to 7th-gen, so expect the future silicon to deliver even more with its extra cores....

AAD-connected accounts won’t be impacted. To view web history, Edge and other browsers have the option to look back at recent web activities....

The question is, what defense is applied against any kind of malware behavior. Various security features can be adapted to the operating system and protect it from other failures. Still, there is no winner in this battle for the best and trustworthy feature that can totally protect the system. Therefore, it’s not fair to state that other operating systems with upgraded platforms and the more trusted boot will guarantee efficient protection....

The two parties reached an agreement five days ago. The accord allowed U.S. District Judge Paul Oetken to dismiss McAfee’s 2016 lawsuit and the countersuit filed by Intel Group. John McAfee original sued the company because he says he was warned off using his name in new projects. He had wanted to rename his cybersecurity company to John McAfee Global Technologies Inc. However, Intel contested that doing so would infringe trademarks....

The research was published in the Nature Communications journal. University of Central Florida highlights a method that tunes individual subpixels on the screen. This is achieved by managing each subpixel with different voltage amounts. By doing this, it is possible to express multiple colors per subpixel. Current LCD displays contain three subpixels per the whole pixel. Each of these subpixels deals with the colors green, red, and blue. Colors are produced by a white light shining through the pixel and a shutter controlling which color subpixels are displayed....

Today, we are getting the first glimpse of that device, and it does seem interesting. Logitech has been working with Tencent Games on the device, which was initially announced earlier this month. Leaker Evan Blass sent out a tweet of images showing the handheld, highlighting it will have access to the Google Play Store, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Nvidia’s GeForce Now. Xbox Cloud Gaming is at the forefront of cloud expansion into the gaming industry....

The new tools sit alongside other recent additions. LinkedIn has been boosting the usability and appeal of Pages and recently added features such as Employee Notifications, Kudos and Team Moments, and Community Hashtags. Those new features will make Pages a more powerful resource. The new additions are Invite to Follow, support for LinkedIn Live, and the ability to post as page or members. Starting with Invite to Follow, it is a tool that gives Pages users the ability to invite first-degree Profile connections....

Reports over the weekend suggested Microsoft was in advanced talks to acquire Nuance for $16 billion and a deal could be announced this week. Microsoft is already a partner with Nuance, so discussions between the companies should be easier. It was thought discussions were ongoing and the estimated value could change. On Monday morning, Microsoft confirmed the acquisition and that indeed the price was different. In paying $19.7 billion, this becomes Microsoft’s second largest acquisition ever....

Based on the company’s Azure Resources Manager (ARM), the service replaces the previous Cloud Services that was based on Azure Service Manager (ASM). Alongside the wide release, Microsoft is also deploying a tool that helps users migrate from the old version to the new model. For the time being, this tool is working in preview. More than just switching the base of the solution, Microsoft has also brought some changes to Cloud Services (extended support)....

Speaking to ZDNet, Zander says Linux is now a big part of Microsoft’s development ecosystem. “We have some sophisticated kernel developers in Linux and Windows and Azure,” Zander said. And given that Zander has some code which he wrote included in Windows 2000, “I’ve known these folks for decades,” he said. As Azure Vice President, Zander leads Microsoft’s Azure strategy, engineering, and cloud lines. He also heads up the company’s SQL Server, big data, quantum computing and other solutions....

Windows 10 versions 1909 and 1903 (November and May 2019 updates) are blocked for AVG and Avast version 19.5.4444.567 or earlier. “To safeguard your upgrade experience, we have applied a hold on devices with affected Avast and AVG Antivirus from being offered or installing Windows 10, version 1903 or Windows 10, version 1909, until the application is updated,” Microsoft says. Avast purchased AVG in 2016 and the company has sent out an update to help users get around the block....

You may remember, Microsoft brought Learning Tools to Office 365 in October, 2016. The capability was originally debuted last summer for OneNote. Office 365 integration brought the tools to Microsoft’s cloud productivity suite. Learning Tools brings various techniques that help people read more effectively. Users find the feature in the modified reader view. New languages come to the feature for the first time today. It is also the first time the service has been on Word Online and OneNote Online....

With the reprieve, Microsoft is able to grant or deny applications and allow licenses for products exported by Huawei. This means Huawei will have extended access to Microsoft’s software on PC. However, it is worth noting this remains a temporary solution and licenses are still scheduled to be revoked. The change also does little to help Huawei in its mobile business. The DoC’s reprieve does not cover Google and Android....

As for Microsoft’s own carbon commitments, the company is working on being carbon negative by 2030. Even more a lofty goal is coming twenty years later when by 2050, Redmond wants to offset all the carbon it has ever used since being founded in 1975. While not all organizations have the resources to match Microsoft’s plans, the Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability platform can help. It is one of the company’s growing number of vertical cloud solutions that helps users report, track, and reduce their emissions....

The company says if a fix was not sent out the vulnerability would give threat actors the ability to cross tenants in Azure. This could provide a way to gain access to resources from a range of customers. “You could very easily gotten a lot of access to a lot of customers,” points out Yoav Alon, CTO at cloud security firm Orca Security. It is worth noting just because no exploit has been found, it is possible it could happen....

On iOS and Android, Microsoft’s productivity suite is available split up in a series of applications. That means users can download individual Office Apps like Word without having to download others. Firstly, Microsoft confirmed Office Mobile apps for Windows 10 Mobile are done and dusted. Yes, the company will continue to support through security but will not add new features. Android and iOS are the future of Office on smartphones....

The Anniversary Update was equally delayed by a few days on desktop and significantly longer for mobile. As a result, it wouldn’t be surprising if customers are skeptical about Microsoft’s commitments for this year. However, Director of Program Management Bill Karagounis confirmed at Ignite Austrailia this week that two updates are coming. Plenty is known about the first already. The Windows 10 Creators update is undergoing its finishing touches, with the final build expected in April....

The main target, of course, is organizations, who currently use Office 2016. Microsoft tends to release new Office versions every three years, so the timing is about right. So far, it seems that Office 2019 will simply offer the features already found in 365, but in a static package. For the unfamiliar, that means functionality like improved inking, new animations in PowerPoint, and new formulas for Excel. Server admins, on the other hand, will see more manageability, voice, and security features....
