SySS says two of its IT security experts, Matthias Deeg and Philipp Buchegger were conduction a research project. During the research, they were able to bypass Windows Hello, specifically the face authentication aspect. The two SySS employees managed to get past the authentication on various versions of Windows 10. This was achieved using a spoofing attack, which means a mimic of the authorized persons face. Simply using a special paper printout of the authorized person’s face, hackers could bypass Hello....

Bad actors cannot use LPE’s to access a system, but they can elevate access once a host has been compromised. For example, increasing access from low-level to admin-level. By running a nefarious .job file, hackers can exploit the way Task Scheduler changes DACL (discretionary access control list) permissions for each individual file....

Starting this week, the 4K capability will finally come to the YouTube app on Xbox One. This is about time because Microsoft launched the 4K capable Xbox One S in August 2016. Google’s video streaming service did not get 4K support through that launch. At least it is now arriving and will be available on both the Xbox One S and Xbox One X this week. With the updated applications, YouTube videos will play in 4K resolution and at 60 frames per second....

This is the second such leak after a previous expose in March. WinFuture reports the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition will cost around $260 when it launches. Microsoft will sell the console in a bundle along with a controller and three installed games (Forza Horizon 3, Sea of Thieves, and Minecraft). According to TechCrunch, Apple has acquired Vrvana, creators of the Totem headset, for $30 million. The device hasn’t shipped, but allows developers to“produce truly opaque blacks and seamlessly blend the real world with the virtual.” The method differs from Microsoft’s HoloLens, which uses transparent displays, rather than cameras. The headset’s OLED display come it at just 3ms, potentially cutting down on disorientation. It also boasts a higher FoV, though Microsoft may soon resolve that issue....

According to details from The Information, we now know a little more about what to expect. For example, Apple is bringing several 8K displays, over a dozen cameras, and next-generation hand and eye tracking technology. We also get some more hints that Apple will take the ultra-premium route Microsoft took with HoloLens. It seems Apple MR will cost $3,000, which undercuts HoloLens 2 by $500 but is still hugely expensive....

The perpetrators have identified themselves as the Turkish Crime Family. They are demanding Apple hands over $75,000 in Bitcoin or lesser known cryptocurrency Ethereum. Alternatively, the group is comically asking for $100,000 worth of iTunes gift cards. While doubts have been cast about legitimacy, the group has posted screenshots of their communications with Apple. The ‘Crime Family’ also revealed the email address they used to reach out to the company....
