According to a new LinkedIn job posting, Windows Core will leverage Microsoft’s machine learning tools to provide security. “Improved the security posture of Windows Open Source Components through initiatives that investigate vulnerabilities found and establish a process for remediation. Improved the overall Program Management skill set, communication, and collaboration throughout the WDG IS organization,” the description of the profile notes. Looking at the profile, it seems Microsoft wants Windows Core OS to be comprised of open source components....

The Galaxy S8 gives users a choice between iris scanning, a fingerprint sensor, PIN, or facial recognition. The last is a feature that we’ve seen work brilliantly with Windows Hello, but Samsung’s implementation doesn’t seem quite there. iDeviceHelp has published a video that shows how the S8’s facial recognition can be easily fooled by an image on a phone screen. Though it takes a little wiggling, the sensor eventually detects the face and unlocks....

It is worth pointing out Skype has a feature that does allow users to set the app to answer calls automatically. This is a good tool, but not really when you don’t want it to happen. The point of the feature is users can turn it off. However, Skype was malfunctioning on Android and answering incoming calls even when the feature was disabled....

While it seems like Microsoft Teams and Skype Meet Now are competing, that’s not really the case. Teams is much more focused towards enterprises with collaboration tools and more support for participants. Skype Meet Now is far more limited, especially in adding more participants. Some tools, such as muting participants are lacking in nuance (they can simply unmute themselves), and Skype does not have enough host tools. It seems Meet Now is more suited to 1:1 meetings....

Synaptics is a long-time creator of touchpad technology and, more recently, fingerprint identification. Yesterday, it revealed to VentureBeat just how easy it is to bypass some of the tech. The fault usually comes from manufacturers trying to save money. By integrating cheap mobile phone sensors in laptops, they save around 25 cents per device but also open it up to spoofing. “Fingerprint identification has taken off because it is secure and convenient when it’s done right,” said Synaptics’ vice president of marketing Godfrey Cheng to VentureBeat....

Over on the Microsoft’s Community Forums, users are reporting a bug that’s causing low disk space warnings to be displayed. It seems the warnings are caused by inaccurate driver letters in recovery drivers. Users on Microsoft’s community says Windows 10 April 2018 Update is notifying on a separate partition. This is 449 MB and is not visible in the update notes. The recovery partition seems to have not been meant for the release, but is included in File Explorer....

However, the early signs suggest Apple’s early confidence may have been premature. Still, there is a good chance Microsoft’s Windows 10 will one day run on M1 machines.
