Specifically, federal prosecutors in Brazil say the platform takes data without “express consent”. To rectify the situation, Microsoft would need to change the default installation for Windows 10. Currently, the platform gives “Automatic Approval” for Microsoft to collect data. Authorities also say within the default settings of Windows, the platform is set to collect browsing and search history. This includes contents of emails and user locations for targeted advertising. This whole issue stems back in the days of Windows 8, when Microsoft changed how DirectX 9 reported on available memory for gaming. Unlike Windows 7 (which allowed games to use all available VRAM), Windows 8 limited VRAM to exactly 4GB. Since then, Microsoft has continued the allocation in Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Most users are likely to be running GPUs with less than 4GB of VRAM, so this problem is moot for the majority....

Windows 11 was launched today and will launch later this year. Does the return to once-yearly feature updates means the concepts that underpinned Windows 10 are gone? Not quite. At the moment, this is showing up for the Business and Education versions of the store. Despite his ties to the games industry, Seamus Blackley actually started as a specialist in high-energy physics. Indeed, he helped to create the physics engine for Flight Unlimited. What’s interesting about this update is that it brings a lot more new features compared to recent Xbox One Insider releases. Those previous updates have been focused on the Windows 10 Creators Update. Microsoft’s latest feature update is set to drop on April 11. Now the company is finalizing the platform for release. Google has decided to change both of those things in a bid to become a fully competitive service. The rebranded YouTube Music will launch on May 22, and will eventually become the company’s main streaming app. It will have a free version, as well as a $10 subscription for ad-free listening, background listening, and downloads. However, here’s where it gets interesting. For $12 users will get access to YouTube Red, Google’s Netflix-like service that also enables ad-free video playback....

According to GitHub network boss Sam Kottler, the February 29 attack peaked at 1.3 TB, making it larger than the Dyn cyber attack that took out websites across the US last year. The attack began at 17:21 and was mitigated by 17:30 thanks to Akamai’s DDoS mitigation service. The attackers abused Memcached instances to send huge amounts of data, amplifying the attack by up to 51,000. It’s not the first time GitHub has been the target of DDoS attacks, with Chinese government suspected as one of the attackers in a five-day 2015 attack....
