If you’re unfamiliar with the Arden SOC, it is the CPU that powers Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox Series X console. According to AMD, it received contact by an anonymous person who said they had test files for current and upcoming GPUs. Those stolen files have recently been leaked online. However, they are no longer available after AMD successfully had them removed. In a statement, the company confirmed the theft but claims it wasn’t a serious leak of information. “While we are aware the perpetrator has additional files that have not been made public, we believe the stolen graphics IP is not core to the competitiveness or security of our graphics products. We are not aware of the perpetrator possessing any other AMD IP.” The chipmaker is now working with law enforcement and the situation is now a criminal investigation.
Upcoming Surface Device
Last week, we reported on a leaked benchmark that seems to show an upcoming Microsoft Surface device with an AMD CPU. It could be the Surface Book 3, which could make an appearance at Microsoft’s upcoming virtual event. The company has announced a virtual event on March 30 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It was widely predicted Microsoft would be launching a Surface Book 3 during the spring. It is now unclear whether the company wants to unveil a new product through a virtual event. Instead, the company could decide to postpone the launch and wait until it can host an audience.
