If you’re wondering why I called it the next Windows 10 feature update, I haven’t forgotten about Windows 10 20H2. However, it is looking increasingly likely 20H2 will be a minor update with few new features. Incidentally, Microsoft officially announced the testing of Windows 10 20H2 this week. For Windows 10 Iron (fe), we expect plenty of the features to be on board. However, there has been few new tools added as the platform arrive on the Preview branch. As mentioned, an ISO image for the build is also available for those wanting a clean install. This is a rare move from Microsoft as the company does not typically rolls out ISOs this early in a Windows 10 development. Either way, if you want the new ISOs, you can check them out here. As for Windows 10 Iron, it is now available to Windows Insiders on the Dev Channel. It is worth noting Microsoft debuted the Dev Channel this week as the replacement name for the Fast Ring.
Windows 10 21H1 Preview
Windows 10 Insider Preview build 20150 does not add much new to the 21H1 platform, but does have an important change for the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL):
“Three new Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) features: GPU compute, WSL install, and WSL update
This build contains three new exciting WSL features. The first is GPU compute: a feature that allows your Linux binaries to leverage your GPU, which makes it possible to do more machine learning development and data science workflows directly in WSL. Secondly, we’ve added a new command: wsl –install
which allows you to install WSL with just one command. Lastly, we’ve added wsl –update
which gives you the ability to easily manage the Linux kernel version used by WSL 2 distros.”
