Desktop Analytics is a suite that helps smooth out compatibility when upgrading Windows 10 and Office 365. In its announcement, Jared Spataro, corporate vice president for Office and Windows marketing said the tool can be used by companies for sorting apps before upgrades. Organizations can “create an inventory of apps running in the organization, assess app compatibility with the latest feature updates of Windows 10 and Office 365 ProPlus, and create pilot groups.” It’s true Desktop Analytics is similar to Windows Analytics, and is indeed an extension of the service. The solution also integrates with System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), a Microsoft tool for deployment and client management. SCCM works with Desktop Analytics to build pilots for testing apps. Part of the Operations Management Suite: “You can then optimize pilot and production deployments with ConfigMgr. Combining data from your own organization with data aggregated from millions of devices connected to our cloud services, you can take the guess work out of testing and focus your attention on key blockers. We’ll share more information about Desktop Analytics and other modern desktop deployment tools at Ignite.”

Availability

It seems that the new feature is not yet available to customers. Spataro did not offer any details on when the launch will happen. However, he did add the solution will be showcased at Microsoft Ignite 2018. That event is scheduled to happen later this month, so we guess Desktop Analytics will land after that.
