Windows Terminal: The first planned improvement is a feature called Windows Terminal, which is the next version of Microsoft’s command line solution. Microsoft says Terminal on Windows 10 supports emojis, multiple tabs, and GPU text rendering. “Windows Terminal will elevate the command-line user experience on Windows, delivering a powerful environment for users of PowerShell, Cmd, Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) and all forms of command-line application,” Microsoft notes. Microsoft says dev’s will get their hands on Windows Terminal during June, so it may show up on the Insider program around that time....

United States based network carriers may be the first to launch 5G, but it will be more available in China. The consultancy firm says China is on course to become the leader in next-generation wireless technology. In a little bit of fear mongering, Deloitte says carriers much adapt now or get swamped by a “5G tsunami, making it near impossible to catch up.” 5G connectivity will deliver improved wireless performance, including bandwidth, security, and responsiveness improvements over 4G LTE....

It’s a powerful feature, but gamers have been waiting for more detail before they jump on the hype train. Thanks to Norwegian publication Pressfire we now know some specifics. Mojang CEO Jonas Märtensson revealed on Wednesday some technical details behind its development. Firstly, cross-platform Minecraft will run via Xbox Live, and that includes Nintendo’s Switch. Though Microsoft is pushing its platform beyond the bounds of its console, this could be a very positive thing for gamers....

Many celebrities and important users have the Blue Tick to separate them as an official account and not a copy. In other words, it tells users the person is who they say they are. Musk said users with verification would have 90 days to join the paid program or their Blue Tick would be taken away....

Earlier in the year, the Indian government said it wanted all Virtual Private Network (VPN) providers to take and store users data for five years. Going into effect later this month, the new rule means VPN providers in India will record user data, such as email address, IP location, Personal Identifiable Information (PII), and more. According to the government, the move will ensure law enforcement agencies can combat cybercrime more effectively....

Though Fable 4 does appear as a search term in Microsoft’s database, its appearance is a far cry from an official confirmation. Mixer pulls its titles from Player.me, owned by SplitmediaLabs, creator of XSplit, rather than Microsoft. Though Player.me rarely publishes incorrect entries, it’s not some kind of accidental slip up on Microsoft’s end. The company could have just been responding to the rumors, but it could also have information the general public isn’t aware of....

Currently, the service is limited to “several cloud-streamed games,” according to Facebook VP Jason Rubin. In the blog post, Rubin adds, “Cloud game streaming promises to deliver unprecedented access to games across every screen. And while we’re thrilled to play a part in that future, that future is a ways off.” It’s interesting that Facebook Gaming is seemingly getting into cloud gaming but also dismissing it at the same time....

Under the new model, the various platforms would remain independent, but users would be able to message people on other social media. An Instagram user could message someone on Facebook or WhatsApp without leaving Direct, for example. This raises natural concerns about user’s privacy. WhatsApp is the only one of the three to feature always-on end-to-end encryption. This ensures messages can only be read by the sender and receiver, and can’t even be read by Facebook....

In total, over 20 email clients are affected and there’s no reliable fix. The exploits use the victim’s own client to decrypt previous messages and return them to the attacker. The proof-of-concept is relatively straightforward and severe, stripping away the protection many rely on. It exploits externally loaded images or styles in HTML emails to steal plaintext via requested URLs. For now, the Electronic Frontier Foundation is advising users to stop using PGP entirely....

GeekWire reports Jeff Tran, a former head of Microsoft’s sports marketing division, will serve twenty-eight months for the scam. Tan pled guilty earlier this year to using fake invoices, fake Super Bowl tickets, and for wire fraud. Tran created a scheme that saw him attempt to take $1.5 million from Microsoft. He sold 75 NFL tickets and 99 tailgate tickets for the 2016 and 2017 NFL Super Bowl. All the tickets were intended for Microsoft employees as part of the company’s partnership with the NFL....

In his new role, Mike Ybarra will be Blizzard’s executive vice president and general manager. The French government says Russian actors manipulated Facebook and Twitter to create discontent that led to increased protests that are sweeping France. Gilets Jaunes “Yellow Vests” have been involved in riots around France, especially in Paris. It was originally thought the movement started as a spontaneous social response to a diesel tax imposed by President Emmanuel Macron. Protestors claimed the tax would negatively impact poor French people and those in rural areas....

Users can now define a gesture to lock their home screen, with a double tap as the default. The addition is far faster than pressing a hardware button, and joins an option for pressing the home button from the home screen. Previous gestures include opening the dock and app drawer, searching, opening Cortana, recent apps, and more. Currently, the app’s gestures don’t gel too well with Android P’s options, but that’s to be expected when its still in beta....

Employees conducted a rally at Google’s San Francisco office on Friday. On Monday, Alphabet dished out the firings. All four employees were reportedly heavily involved in the rally. Google employees are protesting in support of Rebecca Rivers and Laurence Berland. Both employees were put on leave after organizing a previous protest. It seems anyone who challenges Alphabet is facing losing their jobs. However, in a memo obtained by Bloomberg, Google says the latest firings were down to “clear and repeated violations”....

In fact, security firm Kaspersky now says Minecraft being used by bad actors extends beyond simply monetary scams. Specifically, applications claiming to have modpacks for the game are really placing extremely intrusive ads on Android devices. According to Bloomberg, the 24-year old was sued for hacking into a local bus operator and buying a 3 cent ticket. He’s previously claimed attacks on Apple and Tesla, and is named in Line Corp.’s hall of fame for bug bounties. Interestingly, Chang scheduled the live stream on the very platform he’s trying to hack. So far, Facebook is yet to respond to the threat in any way, but its possible work is happening behind the scenes....

You may remember with the original HoloLens, Microsoft sold the device as a developer and enterprise editions. A consumer version was never release, although it eventually became possible for anybody to buy the developer edition. With the HoloLens 2, Microsoft says it will only sell the device as an enterprise option. This could make it more difficult for independent developers and indeed consumers to buy a unit.
