Duo Security says IT admins should not be too concerned as there is a tool available to see which extensions are affected. Called CRXcavator (CHrome eXtension excavator), the tool was used by Duo to see which extensions should be whitelisted or not. It is a beta solution that allows admins to take a granular approach to extension security in Chrome. YouTube is starting a $13.2 million grant that it will give to the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN). With this money and funds from other contributors, the IFCN will launch the Global Fact Check Fund. This initiative will provide financial support to 135 fact-checking groups across 65 countries. These groups combat the spread of fake news in over 80 languages. Google says the new grant will start in early 2023. Closer to home, Google says it is testing and releasing fact-checking tools across its apps and services....

Known as Curveball, the vulnerability is found in CryptoAPI (Crypt32.dll), a Windows OS process that managed cryptographic functionality. Security researcher Tal Be’ery says the flaw is caused by a problematic use of Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) in Microsoft’s Windows code. Microsoft has confirmed a successful exploit of the bug (CVE-2020-0601) would allow attacks to fake email and file signatures, fake executable code on Windows, and launch man-in-the-middle (MitM) attacks. “An attacker could exploit the vulnerability by using a spoofed code-signing certificate to sign a malicious executable, making it appear the file was from a trusted, legitimate source....
