For the unfamiliar, Hyper-V is a virtualization system that lets users run other OSes inside of Windows. They run in their own environment without affecting the rest of the OS, making them extremely useful for testing. In collaboration with Xamarin, Microsoft has introduced an Android emulator to this service, allowing it to be run side-by-side with VMs, Docker, or the HoloLens emulator. For developers, it means a fast testing experience that will incorporate the latest APIs and Google Play Services....

While this device runs any kind of Windows software, it is clearly meant for meetings, presentations, group work and maybe some creative appliances. But for a practical use that goes beyond presentations, it requires apps that adopt well to the big screen. CollaBoard is such a Surface Hub enabled UWP app, which promises to not only make meetings more interactive, but also to connect different device types. Microsoft seems to like it and has just nominated developer IBV as App Creator of the Year contest....

Developer Sam Chiet has been able to create a fully operational version of id Software’s classic in Notepad. Interestingly, this is a completely unmodified port of the game that runs in Microsoft’s native text editor for Windows. To highlight the success, Chiet published a video on Twitter and YouTube. He is also pledging to release the Notepad port of Doom publicly in the near future. “It’ll take some work to polish NotepadDoom into something releasable, but it’ll almost certainly happen over the next couple days,” he said in another tweet....

The social network has previously discussed its plan to use a high-flying drone to bring internet to locations that don’t have connectivity. However, Facebook went quiet on the plan and many thought it was dead. A new report says the company has continued development quietly alongside Airbus. Facebook is working with the aviation giant to further its Zephyr drone project, while also developing its own internet delivery plans. NetzPolitik used a Freedom of Information request to obtain a document showing ongoing work between Airbus and Facebook through 2018....

The current desktop app, which is a port from iOS, was last updated on July 13, 2018. Following signing an exclusive deal with Ninja, the world’s biggest streamer, Mixer has also tabbed Ewok. The 14-year-old Fortnite streamer announced on her Twitter that she is joining Microsoft. Highlighting why Microsoft’s tactic may work, her Mixer account had 10,000 followers within hours. Back in August, Microsoft and Ninja announced a collaboration. It has been widely reported that Microsoft shelled out millions (maybe tens of millions) of dollars to acquire Ninja....

While right clicking on emails in the inbox is supported in the current Gmail version, options are limited. However, that doesn’t mean it’s without flaws, as Google revealed recently. A medium severity bug was found in Windows 10 S systems that use Device Guard. The vulnerability allows attackers to bypass the Windows Lockdown Policy using a bug in .NET, allowing arbitrary code execution. Microsoft failed to fix the issue within Google’s 90-day deadline, meaning its now open to the public. This will likely increase the instances its used in an attack, but thankfully the vulnerability is quite limited....
